Local Initiative to Recycle Grey Water

An innovative water recycling system on trial at Blue Mountains YHA could see its grey water recycled, drastically reducing water usage.

The YHA is one of several buildings in the Blue Mountains trialling a grey water recycling unit for single dwellings, designed by Clearwater Technology. The unit will recycle grey water from showers, laundries and kitchen sinks, enabling it to be used to flush toilets and in washing machines. Once the results are finalised the unit will enter the accreditation system with NSW Health. "We want to minimise our environmental footprint and have implemented a range of initiatives to reduce water use and increase energy efficiency. To recycle our grey water seemed a natural progression," said Ross Lardner, Manager, Blue Mountains YHA.
