Climate Change and Tourism

Climate Change Impacts on Australian Tourism Destinations

The Blue Mountains was included in a project undertaken by the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Reseach Centre. The project was undertaken to increase our understanding of climate change impacts (economic and noneconomic) on five regional tourism destinations and to inform and prioritise adaptation strategies which can be undertaken by destinations.

The goal was to build a framework to inform and prioritise adaptation strategies which can be undertaken by destinations and by tourism businesses. Specifically, the climate change vulnerability of each destination was assessed, with a focus on the potential impacts on tourism infrastructure, activities and operational costs.
