Sydney Food Fairness Alliance - Food Forums

Blue Mountains Regional Food Forum July 2009

In the lead-up to the Sydney Food Fairness Alliance's Food Summit in October 2009, regional food forums have been held. The objectives of the regional food forums is to produce a set of recommendations to feed into the October Food Summit and to also lay the ground work for future Bio-Regional Food Policy.

The Blue Mountains Regional Forum was held on 18 July 2009 with 60 participants. The Forum was supported by Blue Mountains City Council, Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, Blue Mountains Food Coop and Two Front Doors Cafe. Four issues were discussed at the Blue Mountains Forum in facilitated groups:

  • Access to healthy food - cost, distribution, local outlets
  • Planning for healthy food supplies - land use, transport / distribution
  • Sustainable agriculture - practices, carbon footprint, organics, soil quality
  • Food safety and health - synthetic inputs, new technologies, healthy diet

The outcomes of the Forum are summarised in the documents below:

There were also a number of discussion papers contributed by the Blue Mountains community in the lead-up to Blue Mountains Regional Food Forum. These discussion papers can be downloaded below:
