Kitchen Gardens in the Blue Mountains

2011 Relaunch : A KITCHEN GARDEN IN EVERY BLUE MOUNTAINS HOME

Wednesday 19th October 2011 marks the Spring/Summer relaunch of this program by Cittaslow and Slow Food Blue Mountains. In partnership with Oasis Horticulture Winmalee, and involving nurseries throughout the Blue Mountains, this project addresses:

  • Every family growing at least some of their food at home
  • Climate change
  • Food security
  • Food miles
  • Water efficiency

The project consists of discounted seedlings available from local nurseries and a feature in the Blue Mountains Gazette which contains a coupon redeemable at local nurseries. A planting guide is also reproduced in the Feature.

SUMMER HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Summer Harvest Festival Programme forms part of the Kitchen Garden in Every Blue Mountains’ Home promotion and is sponsored by Slow Food Blue Mountains through its Blue Nose Wine Dinners. The programme will have continuing information on how to collect, store, dry and preserve harvested produce.

Kitchen Workshops are an integral part of the Summer Harvest Programme. An expanded number and variety of these workshops will be held from the last week in January to the end of February 2012.
