Call for Community Views Waste and Resources
Blue Mountains City Council is calling for nominations for the Waste and Resources Reference Group from people interested in waste and resource management initiatives in the Local Government Area.
The Waste and Resources Reference Group (WARRG), hosted by Council, is made up of volunteers representing local residents, businesses, schools, youth, neighbours of the Waste Management Facilities, users of the Facilities and environment groups.
Council is now recruiting new members to the WARRG to represent sectors of our community.
Mayor, Cr Daniel Myles, said, “Waste management and resource recovery is a critical function of Council. The last year has seen a major change in the way that waste is dealt with in the Blue Mountains.
“Landfilling ceased at the Katoomba Waste Management Facility and the newly constructed and redeveloped Katoomba Resource Recovery and Waste Transfer Facility is operating successfully. The upgraded facility has been developed to increase resource recovery and to minimise the amount of waste transported to landfill.”
The purpose of the WARRG is to involve the community in the planning, development and implementation of waste and resource management initiatives and to ensure community views on the issue of waste management are canvassed and conveyed to Council.
“The Waste and Resources Reference Group has proven to be very worthwhile in offering thoughts on current and proposed waste management initiatives and suggesting alternatives for consideration by Council”, said the Mayor.
The Group meets 3 or 4 times a year (or as preferred by members).

Nominations need only be brief.Submissions close Friday 4 November 2011.
